Smatree
We are Smatree, a carrying-gear workshop. We make the thing your machine travels in and nothing else — no cameras, no laptops, no accessories for devices we have not had on a bench.
Where the workshop started
With action cameras. They arrived small, expensive and designed to be taken into water, mud and traffic, and almost nothing existed to carry them in. We began pressing closed-cell EVA into moulds with hollows cut for a camera body, a spare cell and a handful of mounts — and that first discipline, one hollow for one object, is still the rule every interior we draw follows.
How the catalogue grew
Outward, one measured object at a time. Poles and grips, because a camera needs somewhere to sit. Charging docks, because a kit with three cells needs them full. Then laptop shells, which turned out to be the same problem at a different scale: an expensive flat object that gets carried badly. Sleeves, tablet shells, backpacks, shoulder bags and the UrbanEdge line all came from that.
What we believe about fit
That a size bracket is not a fit. Two laptops sold at the same diagonal can be quite different rectangles, and a sleeve cut to cover both covers neither properly. We would rather draw a new pattern than widen an old one, which is why we carry more patterns than a brand our size normally would.
What we will not say
That a case is waterproof when it sheds rain. That a universal size fits your machine. That a new colour is a new product. We have turned down more listings for failing those three than for any technical reason.
Where we are
Our carry lab is in Alhambra, California. Design, measuring and the sample work happen there; moulding happens where the presses are. The address is in the footer of every page and on our contact page, and post reaches us at it.
Who you are buying from
You buy a Smatree case from a store, not from this site. We do not take orders, hold payment details or ship parcels — the store does all three, and the order page they give you afterwards is the thread to pull on for anything that needs changing. Our manufacturing warranty stands behind the case whatever store it came from.
