Why we cut this one
We build this shoulder bags and briefcases around Microsoft Surface Laptop7/6/5/4/3. the handle and the strap are already on it, which is the whole reason we cut a separate pattern instead of selling one size for everything.
A case is worth its room in the bag for what it stops, and on the Microsoft Surface Laptop7 the part that pays for a knock is the lid. The strap anchors are riveted through a doubled panel, because that is the seam that tears when a bag is full. The shell takes the hit instead, so we would rather it be stiff and slightly dull than soft and pretty.
Pack the Microsoft Surface Laptop7, then a travel adapter, a USB-C hub and a stylus, and the black shell still closes flat — the pocket was sized after the machine, not before it.
