Does the E619P hold its shape with nothing inside?

It does. That is the point of moulded EVA — the case stands on a shelf empty and does not collapse into a fold, so the LG Gram 16 slides back in without a fight.

How do I clean the black finish?

A damp cloth and nothing else, with the LG Gram 16 taken out first. Solvents lift the coating off the outer skin of the E619P and leave a dull patch that never evens out.
